Use of Molasses-Based Blocks to Modify Grazing Patterns and Increase Highland Cattle Impacts on Alnus viridis-Encroached Pastures

چکیده
Alnus viridis is a pioneer species that has expanded in Central Europe the last decades, causing series of negative agro-environmental impacts. Robust livestock grazing could be used as targeted tool to reduce its encroachment, but more information needed find best approach achieve this goal. In study, we assessed potential molasses-based blocks (MB) lure Highland cattle into A. -encroached areas and monitored impacts on vegetation after grazing. 2019 2020, two herds equipped with GPS collars were placed three paddocks Swiss Italian Alps, differing degree encroachment. Spatial occupancy patterns and activity of arid rangeland cattle grazing small riparian pastures.
The spatial occupancy patterns and activity of cattle grazing three riparian pastures was investigated in northeastern Oregon using Global Positioning System (GPS) collars logging at 1-sec intervals. Cattle consistently selected plant communities as grazing areas that had forage in sufficient volume to meet their requirements and favored communities as resting areas that were dry and open. متن کاملImpacts of Wildlife and Cattle Grazing on Spider (araneae) Biodiversity in a Highland Savanna Ecosystem, in Laikipia, Central Kenya
Spiders were sampled at Mpala Research Centre, Laikipia, Kenya by pitfall-trapping and sweep-netting from May 2001 to July 2002, at a Kenyan Long-term Exclosure Experiment. The aim was to establish species composition, checklist and examine spider responses to disturbances caused by cattle, megaherbivores (giraffe and elephants) and mesoherbivores (other ungulates) by looking at three levels of...
متن کاملImpacts of Rotational Grazing on Soil Carbon in Native Grass-Based Pastures in Southern Australia
Rotational grazing management strategies have been promoted as a way to improve the sustainability of native grass-based pasture systems. From disturbance ecology theory, rotational grazing relative to continuous grazing can increase pasture productivity by allowing vegetation to recover after short intense grazing periods. This project sought to assess whether soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks ...
متن کاملThe use of legume and herb forage species to create high performance pastures for sheep and cattle grazing systems
Sheep and cattle farmers need pastoral systems that are more productive and environmentally sustainable. The role that high feeding value herb and legume forage species can play in the farms of the future is highlighted. It is shown that species such as chicory (Cichorium intybus), plantain (Plantago lanceolata), red clover (Trifolium pratense) and white clover (T.repens) can provide live weigh...
